Here are some of the best ones»» ![]() The 2009 edition of the Montreal Bike Fest is already a memory – and a very happy one! From May 31 to June 7, no fewer than 73,000 people and thousands of volunteers participated in the week’s overall events. More numerous than ever, the cyclists in the Metropolitan Challenge had to brave inclement weather. Then the sun came out for a successful Operation Bike-to-Work, involving both companies and schools. Friday evening brought together 13,000 night owls on wheels – a new record – for the Tour la Nuit, transforming the city into one long light parade. And topping it all off was the 25th edition of the Tour de l’Île de Montréal! A total of 35,000 participants left the start line, cheered on by the stilted bullfighters of the Cirque du Soleil, to embark on a beautiful 52-kilometer route, returning afterward to Jeanne-Mance Park to listen to Daniel Bélanger sing his most popular songs, including Intouchable et immortel (…quand je roule à vélo, la tête dans les étoiles…). The ideal scenario! So many reasons why the 2009 edition remains a happy memory and generates such enthusiasm for next year’s event. Thanks to all of you who made the Montreal Bike Fest an overwhelming success… and who have established Montreal, more than ever, as a city where biking is a way of life. Happy pedalling and see you next year!Images from The Montreal Bike Fest Click on the images below to see the slideshow. |
